Written report explaining how we intend to use VFX and SPFX:
Special Effects:
One of the special effects that we intend to incorporate is the use of make-up and prosthetics, we intend to use this so that we can create the illusion that some of the members on board the ship were hurt during the explosion to strengthen the verisimilitude of the show. We will use make-up and prosthetics to create cuts and bruises on some of the actors. We will also use prosthetics to add additional features to the actor’s face in order to emphasise the ‘alien’ quality and to create the illusion that the space station is home to many different species of people.
Another special effect that we plan to use are scale models. We plan to use a scale model of our space station as we do not have the budget to film a real space station. The use of a scale model will help keep the verisimilitude of the show as in retrospect, the ship can appear to be large on screen if it is filmed in the right way.

Compositing
|
Using our model and green screen we will create the illusion that our space station is in space by keying out the background and placing a copyright free image in its place. This will be achieved by first filming the space station then using Adobe After Effects to take the green screen out of the footage then replacing it with a moving image of space. With will also include elements of planets and other celestial bodies found in space to create the correct science fiction atmosphere needed for our product. the reason for using this VFX is because we will not be able to film in space, so this is our alternative solution.

Keying
|
For the scene where we first introduce the space station to the audience, the station will be drifting in space near some planets. For this scene we will need to take the footage that contains the model of our space station and remove the background. We will be using the chroma key application on After Effects to do this.
|
Masking
|
As part of the story of the product we wished to have different species of people from across the galaxy. To help us create this diverse society we will mask out actors/actress’s face and change the colour levels to make them seem ‘alien’ like.
