Justify the production process of 'The Space Guard':
Overall, I think that the final product of 'The Space Guard' is very similar to the pre-production documents wanted it ti be. In the original production, we wanted there to be five distinct characters, each with a different personality trait based on the stereotypical character arc that that character would have had. Unfortunately, what we ended up with was five actors, but two characters, with three extras. Overall I am happy with the way the amount of characters panned out as a teaser scene of 2 minutes 30 seconds is not enough time to get to know five characters in any amount of detail.
In the original idea for 'The Space Guard', we wanted to have the show set in the year 2618. In the final production however, it was not made clear that the show was set in that year specifically as there wasn't ant subtitles saying the location or the year where the characters were. Ultimately, the year that the characters were in did not affect the overall meaning for the show, therefore it was not of any importance that there would be a subtitle with that specific year on it. What is clear, however, in the final production of 'The Space Guard' is that it is set in the future. This can be seen through the use of props and the holographic 'screen' that was made using visual effects.
We wanted for 'The Space Guard' to be a show that included many different species of people (Marians, Humans...) so that it would be obvious that one of the themes of the show be about diplomacy between different races of people. This was not made obvious through the visual or special effects as we were unable to change the colour of the skin for the Lieutenant to make her an alien. What we were able to do, however, was show the theme about diplomacy between different races of people through the script. We did this through the inclusion of lines such as "but how will we be able to tell the council of planets that we're unable to protect them?". This line helps make that theme partially clear, therefore I am happy with how that turned out.
